Alexandria Necropoleis Project: The Restoration, Protection, and Development of Al-Shatby Archaeolog

10-11-2021

Al-Shatby cemetery is one of the oldest archaeological sites in Alexandria and the most indicative of the early beginnings of the city. However, it was exposed to the negative effects of natural environmental factors, and several forms of encroachment and negligence, until it became prone to being destroyed and, perhaps, extinct. The Archaeological Society of Alexandria is therefore undertaking a project to restore, protect, and develop this site, with funding from the Leventis Foundation, Cyprus.

The lecture will tackle the achievements of this project, and the challenges facing it, while shedding some light on the historical and archaeological importance of this cemetery.

The lecture is open for public, in line with the precautionary measures taken to prevent the spread of the coronavirus pandemic. The number of attendees will be limited and available until the maximum number of seats is reached.
