Egypt is a member of the ANNA LINDH Foundation, for cultural dialogue between the Euro mediterranean people of the 43 countries that are members of the Foundation.

To the members of the Anna Lindh Foundation Egyptian National Network..

The terrible shock that hit Egypt and all Egyptians as a result of the criminal attack against the Alexandria Al kaddisien Church and against Egypt as a whole should induce us all to stand united against those who want to undermine our national unity and our nation's history characterized by brotherhood, tolerance and love among the Egyptian people.

Although it is important to denounce and condemn this terrorist crime, statements and condemnation alone are not enough as we, active members of the Egyptian civil society have to go beyond, and take action to translate into practice our commitment to the spirit of brotherhood, which supports closer ties and understanding among the Egyptian people. We have together to confront extremism of all kinds and all forms of terrorism, I therefore appeal to the organizations members of the Egyptian national network, each in the field of its activities to undertake whatever actions it seems appropriate and adopt programs to help achieve these goals in a manner consistent with the principles and values of the Anna Lindh Foundation for Dialogue Between cultures and civilizations, and its statement concerning the crime committed in Alexandria on January 1, 2011 (Copy enclosed statement).

I request you to kindly inform us about whatever action you undertook or intend to do so we can compile in a booklet the activities and performances of our organizations in this regard.

I also take this opportunity to express to you my sincere appreciation and congratulations on the occasion of the new year, wishing that 2011 would be a happy new year for you and for our beloved Egypt.

What is the Anna Lindh Egyptian Network?

The Anna Lindh Foundation, has an important role to play in the context of the Union for the Mediterranean in overcoming misunderstandings and relaunching social and cultural links in the Mediterranean area.

It has the specificity of working through civil society organizations. These organizations who are interested in cooperating with ALF, believe in the values, the aims and principles of the Foundation, gather in national networks.

This national network in Egypt is headed by the Bibliotheca Alexandrina which has entrusted this responsibility to Ambassador Aly Maher El Sayed, an advisor to the Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina.
