Posted on

Alexandria— The BA will organize on Wednesday, 16 January 2008, a lecture entitled “Mummification in Ancient Egypt” by Dr. Abdelhalim Nureldine, Professor of Ancient Egyptian Language, Faculty of Antiquities, Cairo University, and Advisor to the BA Director.

The ancient Egyptians cherished eternal life. They believed that humans are made up of several elements without which they will not be able to live in the other world and that the soul will not be able to identify the body after death without those elements. There was a direct relation between protecting those elements and death.

According to ancient Egyptian beliefs, the most important element is the body and the best way to save it is through mummification. During the process of body mummification, Egyptians used their skills and the rules of applied sciences. The priests used to mummify in special places according to religious burial rituals.

The BA is presenting through its cultural archeological season, a series of lectures on the history of ancient Egypt. The lectures intend to raise awareness on Egypt's heritage, as part of the BA's mission and role to preserve Egypt's heritage and raise public archeological awareness.

The lecture will start at 12:00 hrs at the BA Auditorium.
