Cairo Salon Discusses Azazeel

Posted on

Alexandria—In this week’s episode of “Cairo Salon” TV Show, aired on Channel One every Friday at 8:00 pm, Dr. Ismail Serageldin, Director of the Library of Alexandria, will discuss Azazeel by Dr. Youssef Zeidan.

Dr. Serageldin will host a number of intellectuals and scholars, namely: Dr. Salah Fadl, Professor of Literary Criticism and former Director of Egypt's National Library and Archives (Dar El-Kottob); Dr. Hosam Akl, Professor of Literature, Faculty of Education, Ain Shams University; and Dr. Wael Ghaly, Professor of Philosophy, Academy of Arts.

Azazeel won the International Prize for Arabic Fiction (Arabic Booker) last March. The six finalists were selected out of 120 literary works. The winning novel, which was re-printed six times in such a short period of time, raised wide controversies. Thus, Cairo Salon will discuss the novel from a literary criticism point of view, aside from the current debates on the cultural arena.

The BA will donate four collections of its publications to the best comment sent to “Cairo Salon” email: salon@bibalex.org
