The IPS Participates in the Celebrations of the International Peace Day

Posted on

Alexandria—The Institute for Peace Studies (IPS), affiliated to the Suzanne Mubarak Women’s International Peace Movement (SMWIPM) and hosted at the BA, celebrates the International Peace Day on 21 September each year. This year SMWIPM and IPS participates by supporting the United Nations’ campaign “WMD – We Must Disarm” declaration. The WMD was launched on 13 June 2009 by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon, and will last for 100 days, ending in 21 September 2009.

Nuclear weapons disarmament has became significantly important, especially with the ever growing danger of these weapons, a threat to humanity and future generations.

The IPS is committed to supporting this campaign and invited all its students, as well as international organizations concerned about peace, to do the same for a safe and arms-free world, especially in light of the growing advance in science and technology and the proliferation of nuclear weapons.
