Alexandria—Dr. Khaled Azab, Director of the BA Media Department, participates in the International Symposium held by the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the Islamic Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (ISESCO), and the University of Kairouan, Tunisia, from 28 to 30 September 2009.

Organized during the celebration of Kairouan as the Capital of Islamic Culture 2009, the Symposium sheds light on Kairouan scientists and their major role in Islamic civilization and heritage.

Azab speaks of mosques in the Islamic world, referring to Kairouan Mosque as an example. He highlights the significance of collective mosques in the early Islamic cities, whether as a starting point of the city’s urban planning, or a political symbol of the then emerging authority.
