A look at Carlo Lizzani’s cinema productions

Alexandria, 29 September 2005—The Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA) is hosting a lecture, photo display and film screening on Sunday, 2 October 2005, honoring the world renowned Italian writer and director, Carlo Lizzani.
The event, entitled “Neorealism between History and Contemporaneity”, is organized by Count Fredrico Wardal, President of the Italian Friends Association of the BA.
The lecture will feature HE Giuseppe Mannino, President of Rome’s Town Council, who will shed light on Lizzani’s life in addition to the book Carlo Lizzani.
A photo display will also be held, comprising eight rare photos of Lizzani’s cinema productions. The event concludes with the screening of the film “Celluloide” directed by the Italian director.
Carlo Lizzani was born on 1922 and began his career as a cinema writer and critic working with a number of eminent Italian directors such as Antonio Pietrangeli and Joe DeSantis.
Lizzani directed his first movie in 1951, where he became famous for historical-political movies. He has achieved a number of international awards such as in the Carlovy Vary Festival in 1952, the Judicial Committee Award of Cannes Festival in 1954, and the Silver Streak Award in 1969.
