The Sky of Alexandria during the Month of August 2017

01 August 2017
As usual, we strive to highlight the most important astronomical phenomena and sights in our sky; we define and draw attention to them. During August, a partial lunar eclipse and a total solar eclipse will occur. The former eclipse, unlike the latter, will be visible for onlookers in Egypt.

The Sky of Alexandria during the Month of July 2017

01 July 2017
The summer night sky has appeared with the well-known and easily identifiable Summer Triangle asterism shining above us and dancing with Jupiter and Saturn, as the moon emerges and adds a unique air of beauty to their splendor.

Eid al-Fitr and Its Prayer Time

During the third and last month of Spring, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn will glow in the sky and can be observed through out the month by the naked eye or through the telescope. May 2017 Astronomy Night: Ramadan Crescent

17 May 2017
This is not the first not the last time where all Arab and Islamic countries do not agree on the beginning of hijri months. This difference does not occur in Dhu al-Hijjah because Haj takes place only in Saudi Arabia. Hence, this month begins on the same day at all countries despite the different crescent observations. Most countries tried to unify the beginnings of the months but all in vain.

The Sky of Alexandria during the Month of April 2017

01 April 2017
Spring has started officially; as the weather has improved, now we can look at the sky but as I mentioned previously light pollution deprives us from this visual and intellectual pleasure. Astronomers and astronomy amateurs declared that 2017 is relatively poor in terms of the number of phenomena that could be monitored. However, there are some important phenomena that could be monitored in the sky of Alexandria.
