So, how was it that this 50 year old woman would penetrate the “glass ceiling” that for 283 years had denied faculty membership to women? Dr. Hamilton attributed her interest and involvement in occupational health to her residence in Hull House (next slide), the pioneering Settlement House in Chicago’s slums, and her interactions with Jane Addams (next slides), founder and Director of Hull House and subsequently,  recipient of the Nobel Peace Price, Hamilton put it this way (next slides).
