Katherine Hennessey

Research Fellow

Katherine Hennessey is a Research Fellow with the Global Shakespeare programme at the University of Warwick and Queen Mary University of London. She holds a PhD in English and Irish Studies from the University of Notre Dame; and was co-convenor, with Clair Wills and Fintan O’Toole, of the Ireland and Shakespeare Conference at Princeton University in March 2016.

 

From 2009 to mid-2014 she lived in Sana’a, Yemen, researching and writing about the history of the performing arts in the Arabian Peninsula. A recipient of Fulbright and Beinecke fellowships, Hennessey has also held academic positions in English at Bethlehem University on the Palestinian West Bank, and in Italian at Sana’a University.

 

Her work has appeared in Arabic, English, and French, in academic journals including ArabLit, Arab Stages, Portal 9 and Middle East Report; a full publication list is available at www.warwick.ac.uk/khennessey. Her most recent research investigates the cultural impact of the Arabian Gulf's new performing arts complexes, and the use of theater as a forum for sociopolitical critique within highly censored societies.
