Transportation

Transportation from the hotel to the venue of the conference (Bibliotheca Alexandrina) will be provided with the hotel reservation.

Should you choose to travel on your own, here are some useful tips for the intercity transportation.

Means of transportation inside the city or between cities are various:

1- To get from the airport to your hotel or around the city, there are limousine services offered by different companies for fixed fees.

  • To get from one place to another in the major cities, you can take a taxi, bus, metro or private car. When taking a taxi, you should agree on the expected fee for your ride first.

  • Public buses cover the major cities and are much cheaper, but are usually crowded. However, there are the similar air-conditioned buses that charge 2 L.E. for the trip and prohibit standing on the bus. They can be found in the main squares in Cairo and Alexandria.

  • The best, cheapest and fastest means of transport in Cairo is the metro system or the Tram in Alexandria, whose station locations are marked by a big red 'M' sign. The metro runs daily from 5:30 am to 12:30 am. Tickets cost less than a pound, depending on your destination, and the front car of every train is for women only.

  • If you prefer driving your own car and have a valid  international license, you can rent a car from car rental services found in all major hotels in the city. To rent a car, you must be over 25 years of age, have a passport, & credit card,  and pay part of the charge in advance.

2- To travel from one city to another, you can take the train, bus or car.

  • Each of the major cities has a central train station; in Cairo it’s in Ramses Square & in Alexandria in Sidi Gaber.
