Prof. Mohamed Elhadidy is a Professor of Biomedical Sciences, Dean of Graduate Studies, and Director of the Center for Genomics (CG) at Zewail City of Science, Technology and Innovation, Egypt. He earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from Mansoura University, where he also obtained his master’s degree in microbiology in 2006. He completed his PhD in Microbiology at Virginia Tech, USA, in 2010.

Between 2011 and 2017, Dr. Elhadidy held research positions at several leading international institutions, including the University of Saskatchewan (Canada), the University of Bristol (UK), and Ghent University and the Scientific Institute of Public Health (Belgium). In 2018, he served as a Visiting Professor at the University of Bath, UK.

Dr. Elhadidy’s research focuses on understanding the pathogenesis, ecology, evolutionary dynamics, and transmission of bacterial zoonotic diseases. His work integrates population genetics and comparative genomics to study these pathogens. More recently, his research has leveraged high-throughput sequencing technologies and genomic epidemiology tools to uncover key genetic determinants of virulence and antimicrobial resistance in zoonotic bacteria. His work on resistome mapping and genomic surveillance provides critical insights into resistance dynamics and transmission to humans. In parallel, his laboratory develops innovative antimicrobial strategies, including antivirulence compounds and quorum-sensing inhibitors, to enhance therapeutic efficacy against multidrug-resistant pathogens. His interdisciplinary work spans microbiology, genomics, bioinformatics, and drug delivery systems.

Dr. Elhadidy is actively engaged in international scientific leadership, serving as the Scientific Advisory Board of the European Partnership on One Health Antimicrobial Resistance (OHAMR) initiative and is an executive member of the Global Health Network MENA region, and the African Academy of Sciences. He is also a former member of the Executive Committee of the Global Young Academy and has served on the National Microbiology Council. Additionally, he contributed to a U.S. National Academy of Sciences committee that developed a framework to enhance training in the responsible conduct of research across Egypt and the MENA region.
