Ina Smith is Programme Officer: Open Science and Open Infrastructure at the Academy of Science of South Africa (ASSAf) and DOAJ Community Manager for Africa, the Middle East, North Africa and Türkiye. With over 20 years of experience in open science and scholarly communication, she advocates for equitable open access, sustainable publishing infrastructure and greater visibility of African research. Her current interests include Diamond Open Access and the innovative, responsible application of artificial intelligence to improve scholarly publishing, research quality and productivity.
