Ouf, Rehab

Biography:

Rehab started her career as a librarian (cataloger) in 1998 at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina. In 2002, she was charged with the responsibility to launch and lead the Electronic Resources Unit at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina. As of September 2006, she has been promoted to Director of New Initiatives Directorate.

Rehab has participated in many national, regional and international conferences and workshops in the field of library and information science, electronic resources, and digital libraries. She has also been the organizer and/or coordinator of some national workshops and seminars aiming at providing wider access to the electronic information. Rehab received an achievement's award from the Egyptian Library Association in 2006. Rehab Ouf holds a Bachelor of Arts in French Language and Literature, Alexnadria University, Egypt, and a Professional Degree in Library and Information Science from The Ecole Nationale Suprieure en Sciences de l'Information et des Bibliothques (ENSSIB), Lyon, France.


Abstract:

Electronic Resources & Services in a Research Context:

The lecture gives a broad overview of the scholarly communication and the scientific publishing, emphasizing their importance both from the institution and the researchers point of view. It also highlights the economic and use value of the scholarly journals, giving interesting facts and numbers about their impact on the research, teaching and writings activities of the scientists. The lecture will then introduce the participants to the different types of electronic information sources, their benefits and use, and will initiate them to their different features and functionalities. The participants of the workshop will also have a broad overview of the plethora of electronic resources and the variety of services offered by the library to its researchers and senior users. Finally, they will get introduced to the electronic resources and search tools made freely available on the web for the scientists and researchers, with focus on the nanotechnology field.
