The Bibliotheca Alexandrina, in collaboration with the Arab Society for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology at the National Research Center, organized the Annual Arab-Asian Biotechnology Conference, which this year came under the theme “Desert Biotechnology and Sustaining Life in Arid Regions.” The conference was held on 5 and 6 November 2025, at 9:00 am, in the Lecture Hall of the Library’s Conference Center.

Several scientific institutions were participating in the conference, including Benha National University, Al-Ahliyya Amman University in Jordan, and the Federation of Asian Biotech Associations (FABA), in collaboration with the BA Sustainable Development Studies, Youth Capacity Building, and African Relations Support Program and the Center for Special Studies and Programs (CSSP).

The conference aimed to discuss how to sustain and adapt life in arid and semi-arid environments in the Arab region, as well as address the pressing challenges posed by climate change and food insecurity around the world.

This year's conference hosted prominent scientists, experts, and lecturers from Egypt, Sudan, Jordan, Tunisia, Germany, Sweden, the United States, Malaysia, India, China, Poland, Canada, and Bulgaria, in addition to representatives from international organizations such as the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the Egyptian Intellectual Property Authority, the National Council for Women, the Agricultural Research Center, and the Desert Research Center.

شاركت مكتبة الإسكندرية بالتعاون مع الجمعية العربية للهندسة الوراثية والبيوتكنولوجي بالمركز القومي للبحوث في تنظيم المؤتمر العربي الآسيوي السنوي للتكنولوجيا الحيوية، والذي أتي هذا العام تحت شعار "التكنولوجيا الحيوية الصحراوية واستدامة الحياة في المناطق القاحلة"، وذلك يومي 5 و6 نوفمبر 2025 الساعة التاسعة صباحًا بقاعة المحاضرات بمركز المؤتمرات بمكتبة الإسكندرية.

شارك في المؤتمر العديد من المؤسسات العلمية ومنها جامعة بنها الأهلية وجامعة عمان الأهلية بالأردن واتحاد جمعيات التكنولوجيا الحيوية الزراعية بالهند، وذلك بالتعاون مع برنامج دراسات التنمية المستدامة وبناء قدرات الشباب ودعم العلاقات الإفريقية ومركز الدارسات والبرامج الخاصة بقطاع البحث الأكاديمي بمكتبة الإسكندرية.

هدف المؤتمر إلى مناقشة كيفية الاستدامة وتكييف الحياة في البيئات القاحلة وشبه القاحلة في منطقتنا العربية، كما تناول التحديات الملحة التي يفرضها تغير المناخ وانعدام الأمن الغذائي على العالم.

أستضاف المؤتمر هذا العام علماء وخبراء ومحاضرين بارزين من مصر والسودان والأردن وتونس وألمانيا والسويد والولايات المتحدة الأمريكية وماليزيا والهند والصين وبولندا وكندا وبلغاريا، بالإضافة إلى ممثلين عن بعض المنظمات الدولية مثل منظمة الأغذية والزراعة (الفاو)، والجهاز المصري للملكية الفكرية والمجلس القومي للمرأة ومركز البحوث الزراعية ومركز بحوث الصحراء.
