A group of the EGY-ECO Writers training participants along with BACES staff designed and executed an awareness campaign to 128 school students starting from 6 March to 17 April 2016 in 4 different schools (El Nasr Girls College, EGC, El Raml preparatory girls school, Nabaweya Mousa and Abd Allah El Nadeem preparatory School ) those students belong to either third year preparatory class or 1st year in high school. The numbers are classified as follows: • 62 female students ranging from 1st and 2nd senior high school class • 21 male students from 1st year prep school class • 25 female students from 1st senior high school class • 20 female students from 1st and 2nd prep school This campaign consists of five sessions for each group. These sessions includes the same subjects discussed in the original training course which are biodiversity, water resources management, climate changes and its impacts on sea level rise, renewable energy and improving energy efficiency, solid wastes management and finally hazardous wastes management. 3-hour sessions were conducted in each school to same group of students. A simple questionnaire has been designed to investigate the knowledge, attitude and perception of students about these different environmental topics. Students were asked to complete this questionnaire before starting the sessions then they are asked to answer the same questionnaire at the end of the campaign after conducting all sessions to measure the effectiveness of the campaign and to assess the current knowledge of the environmental issues among a random sample of school students whose age ranges from 13 to 18 years old. the instructors focused on motivating young people on learning more about environmental issues as it is of great importance for their future giving them ample of environmental helpful websites to get their information from authenticated websites. At the end of the campaign, a closing ceremony has been organized to school students who attended the sessions and certificate of attendance has been handled to those students as they were keen, punctual and committed to attend these sessions. This ceremony was attended by the Alexandria undersecretary at ministry of education Mr. Gomaa Zekry. Also to complete exchange of knowledge with young people, a meeting has been organized to the participants with a group of university students belonging to a youth building capacity program supervised by BACES which is the League of Young Masters program on Sunday 8th May 2016. In this meeting, each participant had the opportunity of talking for 15 minutes with those young masters to share with them his/her experience about the training program and how they can benefit and they also encouraged them to be whatever they are passionate to be, as some of the participants were graduated from faculties other than mass communication but they worked on themselves to be scientific journalists in their famous well-known Egyptian media agencies. After each talk there were five minutes for questioning each participant about what he said that showed how the young people attending this meeting where attracted to the participants talks. 4 1
