Call for Applications for the Second Edition of the “Bibliotheca Alexandrina International Award 2026”

Under the gracious patronage of His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA) announces the call for applications for the second edition of the “Bibliotheca Alexandrina International Award 2026”, under the title “Applications of Quantum Intelligence for Building a Sustainable Knowledge Society and Enhancing Human Well-Being”, starting in May 2026. Applications will remain open until 31 August 2026, and the winner will be announced in October 2026.

Prof. Ahmed A. Zayed, Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, stated that selecting this theme for the Award’s second edition reflects, at its core, a forward-looking vision and a commitment to supporting future-oriented research and technologies. The Award focuses on the use of Quantum Intelligence as a transformative force that contributes to building a knowledge society based on innovation, creativity, digital transformation, and artificial intelligence applications. It also seeks to harness the next generation of quantum computing to provide innovative solutions to major global challenges, including mitigating the effects of climate change, improving the quality of healthcare and education, securing sustainable energy, and addressing other related challenges.

Prof. Zayed explained that the selection of the Award theme for the second edition came following a decision by the Award’s Board of Trustees, which includes distinguished experts and eminent scholars, who selected this field due to its future significance in advancing innovation and scientific progress worldwide. The Award carries a monetary value of one million Egyptian pounds, in addition to a gold medal and an official certificate of excellence.

The “Bibliotheca Alexandrina International Award” comes within the framework of the BA’s enlightening mission and its role as a global beacon of knowledge and intercultural dialogue. It reflects the BA’s commitment to supporting creativity and innovation and encouraging projects and ideas that contribute to human well-being and the happiness of humanity through the fundamental and applied sciences, literature and the arts, as well as the humanities and social sciences. The Award is granted each year in a single field determined by the Higher Committee of the Award.

The first edition of the Award witnessed remarkable success and received significant international attention. It was launched under the title “Green Technology Applications for Achieving Well-Being and Happiness for Humanity” and attracted a distinguished group of researchers and innovators from around the world. The Award was jointly granted to two prominent figures with influential global contributions: Prof. Hassan Shafik Abdullah, a British national of Egyptian origin, in recognition of his contributions to green technology, the circular economy, and sustainable smart cities; and
Mr. Glenn Banaguas of the Philippines, for his efforts in harnessing science to serve impoverished and marginalized communities affected by climate change, and for developing sustainable solutions in the fields of energy and biofuels.

The Award Ceremony for the first edition witnessed high-level attendance led by Prof. Abdel Aziz Konsowa, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and Prof. Ahmed A. Zayed, Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, alongside a distinguished group of former ministers, diplomats, university presidents, intellectuals, and media figures. The attendees emphasized the importance of the Award as an international platform that celebrates knowledge and innovation, while reflecting the Bibliotheca Alexandrina’s position as a bridge for dialogue among civilizations and a global center for thought and creativity.

According to the statute of the “Bibliotheca Alexandrina International Award”, the Award is granted to an individual or institution that has made a distinguished scientific, intellectual, or humanitarian contribution in service of humanity, in accordance with rigorous scientific standards that ensure integrity, transparency, and complete independence throughout the judging process, thereby strengthening the Award’s regional and international standing.

The Bibliotheca Alexandrina also announced that details regarding nominations, application procedures, and the required documents will be made available through the BA’s official website. The BA invites researchers, scientists, innovators, and scientific and humanitarian institutions from around the world to participate in the Award, thereby contributing to the advancement of science and knowledge and promoting innovative solutions that serve humanity and help create a more sustainable and prosperous future for coming generations.
