The BA Mourns Legendary Composer Hany Shenouda

The Bibliotheca Alexandrina mourns the passing of the legendary composer Hany Shenouda. Dr. Ahmed Zayed, Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, on behalf of the Library staff, extends his sincere condolences to his family and fans.
Hany Shenouda is one of the most prominent figures in music in Egypt and the Arab world. Throughout his long artistic career, he left a significant impact on the music scene through his distinguished works, which helped shape artistic taste and touched the hearts of successive generations.
Shenouda was born in Tanta in 1943. He earned his bachelor’s degree from the Faculty of Music Education in 1966, before embarking on a prolific artistic career that cemented his status as one of the leading composers and music arrangers in Egypt and the Arab world.
He gained prominence through his contributions to the soundtracks of numerous Egyptian films. He was recognized for his pioneering role in introducing modern musical styles that challenged the conventions of his time, thus playing a key role in the evolution of the Egyptian song by incorporating innovative musical techniques and arrangements. He remained active in the arts scene until the later years of his life, producing distinctive musical works and taking part in various concerts and artistic projects.
Shenouda received numerous awards and honors throughout his prolific artistic career, as well as a nomination by the Bibliotheca Alexandrina for the State Appreciation Award in 2023 in recognition of his unique creativity.
