Posted on

Alexandria— The Eratosthenes Festival, 19 and 21 June 2008, held at the BA and in Aswan city, is an annual event organized by the BA Planetarium Science Center (PSC) to honor the outstanding third Librarian of the Ancient Library of Alexandria.

Eratosthenes is categorized as a “Beta” because of his pioneering role in a diversity of humanitarian, scientific and cultural issues. "Eratosthenes 2008" continues the tradition of measuring the earth’s circumference on 21 June, the day of summer solstice.

Children from about 10 schools in Alexandria and Aswan, along with the PSC Summer 2008 Festival participants will take part in the Festival. The Event will include other lectures and activities to encourage children to think and solve mathematical problems.

A closed video conference session will be held on Thursday, 19 June 2008, where selected schools from France and Egypt will discuss the outcome of their Eratosthenes workshops in both countries.

More lectures and workshops will be conducted at the BA Conference Center and Plaza, and Elephantine Island in Aswan on Saturday 21 June 2008.
