Green Economy Conference Inauguration

On 16 December 2015, the BA held the inauguration ceremony for the "Green Economy: A Road Map for Sustainable Development and Poverty Reduction in the Arab Region" Conference. The conference was organized by the BA Center for Special Studies and Programs in collaboration with the World Academy of Sciences for the Advancement of Science in Developing Countries’ Arab Regional Office (TWAS-ARO) on the occasion of their 11th annual meeting. The conference was held on 16–17 December 2015.

The World Academy of Sciences for the Advancement of Science in Developing Countries supports young scientists, creates outstanding scientific networks, and promotes science. The Academy’s Arab regional office currently has 71 members.

During the conference, the activities organized by TWAS ARO, such as the Young Researcher program, seminars, conferences, workshops, and annual awards, were presented. Among the topics discussed during the conference were climate change and its effect on sustainable development, especially in developing countries, and a few solutions to these issues were recommended. The conference also highlighted various means of supporting green economy and the importance of following the appropriate policies to achieve sustainable development.

Additionally, the conference pointed out that overpopulation will have a negative impact on the environment, as it is expected that the world's population will increase up to 9–10 billion by 2050. It also stressed the importance of employing "green measurement" through the integration of environmental and national measurements, in order to come up with policies that can be applied to develop the national economy and achieve sustainable development.
