The BA Arts Center received 16 applications for its Theater Production Grant (2016/17) and the submitted projects underwent the following selection process:

Stage one: Incomplete projects or projects that did not adhere to the terms and conditions were eliminated (two projects).

Stage two: The 14 theater projects that adhered to the conditions were reviewed by a committee of directors, including Khaled Galal, Tarek Eldoweiry, and Naser Abdel Moniem. The scores were then calculated, and the three projects that achieved the highest scores were:

Desire Under the Elms: written by Eugene O’Neill and directed by Gamal Yaqout (Creation Group).

Blood Wedding: written by Federico García Lorca and directed by Riham Abdel Razek.

The Chinese Wall: written by Max Frisch and directed by Mohamed El-Zeiny (Ro’ya Theatrical Troupe).

The project that came in fourth place will become one of the finalists if any of the top three projects is unable to commit.

The Arts Center also received 22 applications from theatre directors for the first round of the Premiere Project (2016/17). The submitted projects underwent the previously announced selection process, and the 22 theater projects were reviewed by a committee of directors, including Dr. Ayman El-Khashab, Ahmed El-Sayed, and Basem Kenawy. The scores were then calculated, and the three projects that achieved the highest scores were:

1984: directed by Ahmed Samir Metwaly

The Basement (Al Kabw): directed by Mohamed Osama Atta

The Experiment: directed by Ahmed Ezzat El-Alfy

The project that came in fourth place will become one of the finalists if any of the top three projects is unable to commit.
