The “Archaeological Inscriptions in Ancient Egypt” Workshop at the BA Comes to an End

The BA had witnessed the end of the workshop “Archaeological Inscriptions in Ancient Egypt” which was organized by the Academic Sector’s Writing and Scripts Center at the BA, in cooperation with The German Archaeological Institute in Cairo. It took place from 21 to 25 October 2018.
These archaeological inscriptions represent an important source for identifying the social, political and historical aspects of the ancient Egyptian society. The workshop lasted for five days and included three main features: describing and documenting inscriptions through their physical shape on the monument; reading, translating, analyzing and commenting on the texts and inscriptions; putting these inscriptions in their historical, social and political context.
It is worth mentioning that the Writing and Scripts Center has launched a number of digital projects that aim to document and preserve archaeological inscriptions. They include the Digital Library of Inscriptions and Calligraphies, which comprises more than 3000 inscriptions, in addition to the “Hieroglyphs Step by Step” Website, which publishes for the first time a dictionary in Hieroglyphs, Arabic and English and includes more than 6000 words in Hieroglyphs.
