Within the framework of the Visiting Scholar Program, the Center for Special Studies and Programs (CSSP) and TWAS-AREP are organizing a lecture entitled " The Intersection of Earth Observations and Data Science Addressing the Fate of our Ecosystems". The lecture is delivered by Dr. Hesham M. El-Askary, Professor of Remote Sensing and Earth Systems Science, and Director of Graduate Programs in Computational and Data Sciences at Schmid College of Science and Technology, Chapman University, USA. The lecture will be held on Tuesday, 10 December 2019; 3:00–5:00 pm at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina Conference Center. Dr. Moustafa El Feki, Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, will inaugurate the lecture.

In this lecture, Prof. El-Askary will address how artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) can be used in the field of earth systems science, and how the recent advances in AI deepen the understanding and knowledge of the Earth's system that is driven from actual data and observations. He will also discuss how advances in (AI) and (ML) serve to address environmental challenges facing citizens, governments, natural resource managers and decision-makers.

The Visiting Scholar Program is a special program organized by the Center for Special Studies and Programs (CSSP). The program invites an international scholar each year to visit the Bibliotheca Alexandrina for a certain period of time, with the aim of disseminating and exchanging knowledge with other scholars, researchers, and students working in the same field of expertise.
