“Human Rights and Double Standards” in an Intellectual Gathering Organized by the BA

Posted on

Dr. Moustafa Elfeki, Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandria, will chair an intellectual gathering entitled “Human Rights and Double Standards” on Tuesday, 22 December 2020. This event aims to highlight the discrepancy between Egypt’s belief in the noble values and ideals of the human rights system and the attempts made by major powers to use the principle of human rights as a pretext for interfering in the internal affairs of Egypt, ignoring the fact that Egypt had vigorously taken part, alongside other world countries, in drafting human rights charters and international conventions since the proclamation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights on 10 December 1948. These foreign countries attempts are based on many prejudices and fallacies, which in turn lead to the perpetuation of the policy of double standards serving the interests of certain regional and international powers.

The gathering will witness the participation of Dr. Shawki Allam, the Grand Mufti of Egypt; Anba Ermia, Director of the Coptic Orthodox Cultural Center; Mr. Mohamed Fayik, President of the National Council for Human Rights; Mr. Mohamed Ragai Attia, President of the Bar Association; Dr. Ali El-din Helal, Professor of Political Sciences at Cairo University; Dr. Doria Sharaf El-din, former Minister of Information; and Ambassador Ahmed Ehab Gamal El-din, Assistant Foreign Minister for Human Rights.

The event will be held at 5:00 pm in Cairo.
