The Bibliotheca Alexandrina is celebrating “Open Access Week” for the fifth consecutive year, from 24 – 27 October 2022, with an aim of highlighting the importance of gaining access to knowledge through “Open Access Publishing.”

It is worth mentioning that free access to information is a publishing database that provides direct, immediate and free access to the results of scientific research, such as articles, books, theses, and other sources over the Internet, as well as the right to reuse them in new research.

As part of the celebration, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina dedicated a corner in its Main Entrance (from 10:00 am – 3:30 pm), to learn more about free access to information.

Moreover, a workshop on how to find and use free access resources will be held on Monday 24 October, and will be repeated on Tuesday, 25 October and Wednesday 26 October, from 1:30 pm – 3:00 pm (BA Main Building – B3 Level – Center for Research and Information Skills Development). A seminar entitled “Free Access to Information: Liberating Knowledge” will also take place on Thursday, 27 October, at 10:00 am, in the BACC Delegates Hall. It will witness the participation of the Egyptian Knowledge Bank and a host of distinguished publishers.
