The Chilean Ambassador Presents the BA with the Works of the Most Prominent Chilean Writers and Poets

Dr. Ahmed Zayed, Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, received today H.E. Mr. Roberto Ebert, Ambassador of Chile to Egypt, and Consul Alejandro Abarca, where the Ambassador presented the BA with the works of the most prominent Chilean writers and poets.

The donation includes the complete works of Pablo Neruda, one of Chile's most famous poets and winner of the Nobel Prize in 1971. The donation also comprises works by writer and diplomat Alberto Blest Gana and writer Gabriela Mistral, winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1945.

Dr. Ahmed Zayed thanked the Chilean Ambassador for this remarkable donation, stressing that it is a valuable addition to the BA collections. He pointed out that this collection is of great importance and benefit to the visitors of the BA, as there are many Egyptians who are interested in Latin American culture and literature, and a large number of young people studying at the Spanish language departments in Egyptian universities.

He also stressed the importance of cooperation between Egypt and Chile in various fields, particularly the economic, scientific and cultural fields.

For his part, Ambassador Roberto Ebert was pleased to present this donation to the BA, asserting that it is one of the most important libraries in the world. He stated that the donated collection includes the works of the most distinguished and influential Chilean writers and poets. He also discussed with Dr. Ahmed Zayed ways of cultural cooperation between the Embassy of Chile and the BA in the coming period.

At the end of the visit, Dr. Ahmed Zayed presented Ambassador Roberto Ebert with the book The Photographic Memory of Alexandria, a publication issued by the BA.
