The BA Center for Strategic Studies is organizing a panel discussion entitled "The Challenges of Information Circulation in the Digital Age: Between Credibility and Rumor", as part of the "Alexandria Dialogues" series organized by the BA. The event will be held on Tuesday, 28 November 2023, at 10:00 am, in the BACC Small Theater.

The discussion will revolve around the future of information circulation in Egypt, considering that universal access to it is the basis for all forms of social organization that contribute to development, especially in the digital age. The continuous development of digital technologies has also contributed to the emergence of new forms of disinformation that are increasingly dangerous to the national security of states and societies.

Therefore, the dialogue, in the presence of a group of experts, specialists, academics, senior intellectuals and the public, aims to discuss ways to comprehensively address the problem of disinformation and rumors, and the challenges they pose to the quality and credibility of information. This discussion is set to generate serious and effective recommendations that will help maximize the benefit of information circulation in the digital age, thus contributing to consolidating the gains of the New Republic.

The session will be headed by Prof. Ahmed Zayed, Director of the BA, and will be delivered by:

  • Dr. Abdulaziz bin Saqr, Chairman of the Gulf Research Center, Saudi Arabia.
  • Prof. Maged Osman, President of the Egyptian Center for Public Opinion Research (Baseera) and former Minister of Communications and Information Technology.
  • Major General Dr. Ezzedine Abdel Rahman Auf, Advisor to Nasser Military Academy for Postgraduate Studies.
  • Dr. Yasser Abdelaziz, media expert and former BBC consultant.

It is worth mentioning that "Alexandria Dialogues" is a series of panel discussions that was launched by the BA last November at the initiative of Prof. Ahmed Zayed. These periodic meetings provide open discussions between a number of experts and specialists and the audience to tackle political, economic, social and cultural affairs.
