BA Latest Publications at Cairo International Book Fair 2024

The Bibliotheca Alexandrina takes part in the 55th round of the Cairo International Book Fair, with several publications available in a pavilion for display and another for sales. The Fair runs from 24 January to 6 February 2024, at Egypt International Exhibition Center in the Fifth Settlement.

The BA is displaying its latest publications at the Fair, including the book The Lighthouse of Alexandria: One of the Seven Rediscovered Wonders of the World, written by Jean-Ives Empereur and translated by Rania Fathy and Rania Ezz Al-Arab.

Among other notable BA publications is the book Atlas of El-Nozha Gardens: Complex Plants in Alexandria, Egypt, an outcome of the "Preserving Nature: A Lifestyle and Humanitarian Commitment" initiative for young people, which was launched by the Library, in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment. The book is published under the general supervision of Dr. Ahmed Abdullah Zayed, Director of the BA, and written by Dr. Iman Nour, Lecturer of Botany and Microbiology at the Faculty of Science, Alexandria University.

The Library pavilion will also feature The History of the British in Alexandria, a book written by Dr. Carole Escoffey, with an introduction by Sir Geoffrey Adams, former Ambassador of the United Kingdom to Egypt, and a foreword by Dr. Moustafa El-Feki.

The Arabic translation of Dr. Bill Manley’s Egyptian Hieroglyphs for Complete Beginners is among the BA publications displayed at the Fair. The book, which is part of the Library’s Translation Project, is translated by Dr. Ahmed Mansour and Dr. Azza Ezzat.

The pavilion will also include Istvan Ormos’s Max Herz Pasha and the Committee for the Conservation of Arab Antiquities, which is translated by Prof. Moustafa Riad.

In addition, the BA will present the sixth and seventh issues of The Memory of Arabs magazine, a peer-reviewed publication dedicated to the cultural and historical heritage of Arab and Islamic countries. The magazine accepts research published in Arabic, English and French. It is published by the Center for Islamic Civilization Studies, in cooperation with the BA Academic Research Sector’s "Memory of Arabs" project.

The pavilion will also include the "Heritage of Humanity for Young People" series, which aims to spread awareness and knowledge in very branch of human knowledge, in a simplified and engaging manner, to all young people in Egypt and the Arab world.

Other publications featured in the Book Fair are "Marassed" and "Awraq" series, along with the different issues of The Memory of Egypt magazine. Abgadiyat, an annual international scientific peer-reviewed periodical published by the BA Writing and Scripts Center, the "Coptic Notebooks" series, as well as the series of plays produced by the CULTNAT’s National Project for the Documentation of Theatrical Heritage, are part of the BA collection displayed in its pavilion at the Fair.
