The Inter-academic Group for Development (GID) has been created to reinforce the links between science, professional practice and social expectations, within the context of the mandate of the Academies: spread scientific knowledge within society, share science, in keeping with excellence, impartiality and independence. As an initiative of the Académie des Sciences de l’Institut de France, PARMENIDES is an Inter-academic Mediterranean Program aiming to unite the Academies of the countries bordering the Mediterranean in a common goal of developing an identity to scientific excellence. PARMENIDES was launched in 2005 gathering Academies from Italy, Spain, Turkey, Morocco and Senegal, along with the Bibliotheca Alexandrina (Egypt), the Malta Council for Science and Technology (MCST) already participate in the initiative, supported by UNESCO and in France, by the Inter-Academic Group for Development (GID) – Academy of Sciences, Academy of Moral and Political Sciences, National Academy of Medicine, Academy of Agriculture of France, Academy of Technologies, and the Arab World Institute in Paris (IMA).
