The lecture explores the ideas about the value and nature of intellectual pursuits in Ancient Greece which led to the establishment of the Alexandrian Mouseion. The lecture will particularly explore the link between schole (leisure) and scholarship as practiced in Alexandria. The lecture will focus on the Athenian heritage of the Alexandrian Mouseion.

The lecture will be delivered by Richard Hunter, Regius Professor of Greek at the University of Cambridge.

The lecture will be held as a part of the fourth season of the Cultural Program of the Alexandria Project.
