On the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the death of the Spanish Egyptologist and Diplomat Eduard Toda (1941–1855), a lecture will be held to shed light on his view of the city of Alexandria as depicted in his book A través del Egipto (Across Egypt). In his book, Toda discusses Alexandria’s history and antiquities at the time of his visit during the beginning of the British occupation and the reconstruction of the city after it was destroyed. The book also highlights Toda’s most significant discoveries and contributions to Egyptology.

Eduard Toda was the first Egyptologist in Spain. He first stepped foot in Alexandria in 1884 as he was appointed as Consul General of Spain in Alexandria. His passion for history and antiquities led him to tour many historical cities, such as Giza, Luxor and Aswan. He produced 9 works in which he described his discoveries and studies.

The lecture will be delivered by Dr. Islam Assem Abdel Karim, Head of the Tourist Guides Syndicate and Modern and Contemporary History Teacher at the Higher Institute For Tourism, Hotels and Restoration of Monuments in Abou Qir.
