Frederick II, a Bridge Between East and West

Alexandria— the BA External Relations Sector in cooperation with Pangea Foundation will organize a lecture and a documentary film show “Frederick II, a Bridge Between East and West” on Monday, 27 November 2006. Frederick II Hohenstaufen (1194-1250) was characterized by his ability to go beyond the cultural and religious barriers to create a relationship of cooperation with the Muslims. The film is among a series of documentaries entitled “Beacons of Humanity” presenting moments in history that are characterized for their rejection of violence, opening up for other cultures through studying the historic events and their relationship to their contemporary environment, as well as to the past and also their effect on the future.

It is worth mentioning that the BA had signed a cultural cooperation agreement with Pangea Foundation. The agreement aims at developing arts, science, education, and culture through encouraging cultural exchange and better understanding between peoples and civilizations. The Pangea Foundation is an international cultural organization- in taking the name Pangea ¬– wants to stand out in one image the unity of all lands, and hopes for a future where all nations would unite in one. The foundation mission is based on tolerance and rejection of violence, at a time of huge cultural differences between the peoples of the world. The foundation focuses on common elements among cultures thus spreading values of understanding and tolerance.
