Alexandria— The Anna Lindh Euro-Mediterranean Foundation for the Dialogue between Cultures, with the support of the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency SIDA is launching a regional program to promote children's literature and reading in five Arab countries: Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Palestine, Lebanon.

The program targets all the sectors related to reading: editors, writers, librarians, distributors, media, universities, schools, teachers, public and private libraries, stakeholders involved in the field of books, reading and children as well as related ministries and governmental institutions. The details of the program will soon be on the web site of the foundation.

The activities of the first year are based on conducting a basic assessment of the situation of children literature and reading in the related countries, as well as implementing a launching activity in each of the five countries, setting up its regional orientation with a clear visibility involving all book actors .

Through this first phase a national plan for developing children literature in each of the five countries will be developed, as well as a regional plan that will identify the projects and activities of the coming phases of the program.
