September Cinema Program at the BA

Alexandria—The BA Arts Center organizes a cinema program during the month of September 2009. The program starts on 6 September 2009 with the Short Films Forum entitled “From Yemen and About Yemen”, in which two documentary films are screened: El-Rataj El-Mabhour (The Lighting Door), directed by Hamed Oaqbe, 2006, 30 minutes, and The Walls of Sana’a, directed by Pier Paolo Pasolini, Italy, 1971, 16 minutes.

During the celebrations of Youssef Chahine’s Year, a special program is held entitled “East-West Dialogue” showing a number of Chahine’s historical films. Screenings takes place between 7 and 10 September 2009, and include El-Nasser Salah El-Din (Saladin), Egypt – Fiction – 1963 – 145 min; El Wadaa Ya Bonaparte (Adieu Bonaparte), Egypt /France – Fiction – 1985 – 114 min; El-Mohaguer (The Emigrant), Egypt /France – Fiction – 1994 – 129 min; and El-Maseer (The Destiny), Egypt /France – Fiction – 1997 – 135 min.

A number of experimental Irish films will also be screened from 25 to 27 September 2009, in cooperation with the Irish group “Solus Film Collective”.
