Alexandria, 27 January 2005—The Calligraphy Center at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA) is organizing a Hieroglyphic language course that begins on 14 February 2005 and lasts for three months.

Professor Abdelhalim Nureldin, Director of the Calligraphy Center, announced that the courses were arranged in response to many requests by Egyptians who want to learn the language, as it is associated with some fields such as Fine Arts and Engineering. He added that the Center is keen on raising public awareness of Egyptology, which so far has been limited to the specialized students although it is taught in many international centers in France, Spain, the United Kingdom, and USA.

The course is comprised of four phases where the students learn the basics of reading and writing the hieroglyphic language, then the history of calligraphy in Egypt, and advance to study hieroglyphic text engraved on ancient Egyptian temples and walls.

It consists of lectures by specialized university professors, in addition to films and field trips to museums. The Center invites people of all ages, specializations, and backgrounds to join the program.
