The BA Celebrates the Translated Works of Sheikh Mohammed Al-Harthy at the Seminar “British Knowledge in the History of Oman and the Mashriq”

The Bibliotheca Alexandrina, in collaboration with the Arab Organization for Translation, organized a high-level symposium titled “British Knowledge in the History of Oman and the Mashriq: The Translated Works of Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdullah bin Hamad Al-Harthy as a Case Study.”
The event was attended by Dr. Ahmed Zayed, Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina; Dr. Bassam Baraka, President of the Arab Organization for Translation; Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdullah bin Hamad Al-Harthy; and Dr. Mohammed bin Salem Al-Harthy, with broad participation from Arab researchers, academics, and diplomats specializing in history, translation, and documentation.
In his opening remarks, Dr. Ahmed Zayed said that this work represents a monumental achievement whose intellectual value and scientific rigor rival the great translations of the Abbasid period and the modern translation movement. He mentioned that the seminar underscores the role of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina as a cultural hub that supports scientific research and fosters awareness of the importance of encyclopedias as sources of knowledge that contribute to a reinterpretation of Arab history through a modern scientific perspective and a rigorous methodology that serves future generations.
Dr. Zayed stated that translation, at its core, conveys not only words but also ideas, beliefs, and knowledge, making the translator in modern studies a social actor and cultural mediator and negotiator capable of shaping the historical framework, forming the knowledge structure and giving ideas a longer lifespan than their original language.
