Dr. Ahmed Abdullah Zayed, Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, accompanied by Mr. Miguel Alemán Urteaga, Ambassador of Peru to Egypt, has inaugurated the exhibition “Treasures of Peruvian Handicrafts: A Journey Through Tradition and Creativity,” which showcases the works of artisans who have used their talents to preserve and celebrate Peru’s diversity. The exhibition runs from 6 to 12 May 2026.

Dr. Zayed said that the handicrafts featured in the exhibition tangibly reflect the cultural identity of Peru, serving as that magical link connecting the past and the present through a blend of ancient traditions and contemporary artistic styles.

He also mentioned that the exhibition represents a cornerstone in promoting cultural exchange among nations and creating a space for rapprochement and mutual understanding between two peoples united by a long shared cultural history and a common commitment to protecting human heritage.

Ambassador Miguel Alemán Urteaga, meanwhile, said that despite the geographical distance between Egypt and Peru, both nations share the distinction of being heirs to two of the oldest civilizations in history, and have presented the world with timeless monuments and knowledge in the fields of agriculture, engineering, and the arts that continue to fascinate the world to this day. He also noted that the exhibition represents an opportunity to showcase Peru’s cultural richness and diversity at one of the world’s most distinguished centers of knowledge.
