CIPEG Annual Meeting 2026

The ICOM International Committee for Egyptology, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina Antiquities Museum, and the American University in Cairo are proud to announce that the 2026 annual meeting will take place between 30 November – 5 December, 2026 in Alexandria and Cairo
*Theme: Egypt–Mediterranean Encounters*
This year's meeting explores the intersection of Egyptian perspectives on Mediterranean encounters within contemporary museum practice. A dedicated session will focus on the digital reunification of dispersed collections—directly aligning with CIPEG’s strategic focus on decolonization and digitization under the wider ICOM framework.
*Topics may include*
- Virtual reunification of archaeologically or historically connected collections.
- Collaborative digital projects between Egyptian and international institutions.
- Linked data, collection interoperability, and digital infrastructures.
- Databases and collection management tools to manage large data sets.
- Digitization as a tool for research, access, and heritage preservation.
- Reconnecting archives, excavation records, photographs, and objects.
- Digital approaches to provenance research and collection histories.
- Ethical considerations in the digital sharing and representation of cultural heritage.
- The role of digital technologies in supporting more equitable and inclusive museum practice.
*Call for Papers*
We invite proposals for paper presentations. Submissions must include a title and an abstract of no more than 200 words, written in English.
• Presentation Format: 15 minutes, followed by a collective discussion period at the conclusion of each session.

*CIPEG 2026 Grants*
CIPEG is pleased to offer financial support for up to ten Egyptian or Sudanese participants, with preference given to early-career scholars.
Grant Requirements:
• Applicants must be presenting an accepted paper at the meeting.
• Recipients are required to prepare and submit their paper for publication in the CIPEG journal.
