The BA Center for Strategic Studies and the Sustainable Development Studies, Youth Capacity Building, and African Relations Support Program, in collaboration with the National Alliance for Civil Development Work, organized a specialized workshop titled “From Volunteer Experience to Professional Merit: Volunteering as Infrastructure for Human Capital in Egypt,” on Sunday, 16 August 2026, in celebration of International Youth Day 2026.
The BA Director, Dr. Ahmed Zayed, welcomed Mr. Hatem Metwally, Deputy Head of the Technical Secretariat of the National Alliance for Civil Development Work. They discussed areas of cooperation in supporting and building the capacities of young people, documenting volunteer experiences, and promoting applied research on community development issues.
The workshop’s opening session was attended by Mr. Hatem Metwally and Dr. Marwa El-Wakil, Head of the BA Academic Research Sector. It was moderated by Dr. Mahmoud Ezzat, Director of the Center for Strategic Studies, and Ms. Riham Salah Khafagy, a researcher at the Center.
The workshop witnessed broad participation from young people with volunteer experience, volunteer representatives of civil society organizations, and volunteers from the BA and Hayah Karima Foundation. They engaged in an interactive dialogue addressing the economic and professional value of volunteer work as well as the importance of documenting the experiences and skills young people acquire through their involvement in these types of activities.
It is worth noting that this workshop took place on the sidelines of the event “Youth and Development in Egypt: Integrated Partnerships and Hopes Fulfilled,” organized by the BA in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the National Alliance for Civil Development Work, and the Supreme Council of Culture last Thursday, which included the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the BA and Hayah Karima Foundation.
