Closing of the BioVisionAlexandria2006: New Life Sciences: Changing Lives

Alexandria- The closing of the BioVisionAlexandria2006: New Life Sciences: Changing Lives took place at the BA on 29 April 2006. The ceremony was attended by Dr. Ismail Serageldin and a group of distinguished scholars and scientists including Dr. Philippe Desmarescaux, Chairman, The World Life Sciences Forum, BioVision (France), and Mr. François Gros, Secretaire General, Honorary Permanent Secretary, Académie des Sciences (France).

Dr. Philippe Desmarescaux started his speech by stating his honor that women had a significant contribution in the conference this year and that they will play a great role in the coming conferences through their experiences. He added that there were a large number of lectures focusing on biotechnology which stressed on carrying out projects that involve the collaboration of the north and the south and that, throughout the lectures, the participants were emphasizing on the well being of humanity and society. Then he highlighted the importance of having policies and strategies that insure the transmission of biotechnology and its advantages to every country that suffers poverty and malnutrition and needs to reach sustainable development, and conservation of environment. He concluded his speech by hoping that the coming conference, that will take place in France, would tackle other issues such as agriculture development and export development to come up with scientific and practical solutions to reach the new millennium developmental goals. And finally, that the conference would move from the recommendation and vision stage to the implementation stage.

Following his speech, Dr. Gros then pointed out his content with the great number of youth who participated in the conference highlighting their important role in reducing the gap between the countries of the North and the South. He also asserted on the importance of collecting all the reports, recommendations, and proposals that came up throughout the conference in a book to be available for the benefit of the world, especially the issues of agriculture, nutrition, and diabetes.

The closing ceremony was concluded by Dr. Ismail Serageldin where he stated that through this conference, theBA is celebrating science, youth , and Nobel Laureates, and that it opens to the world through the language of science that doesn’t belong to a specific religion, gender, or race. he pointed out to the fact that the common information among the countries is the thing that keeps us close to be able to implement and helps us accept each others opinions to create a considerate society that ensures the respect of human.
