The BA Professional Diplomas and Programs Section is organizing a lecture entitled "The Future of Libraries in a Time of Global Change: International Libraries and Building a Strong Professional Identity" on Sunday, 18 January 2026, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, at the Delegates Hall of the BA Conference Center.

The lecture will be presented by Dr. Walid Ghali, Professor at the Institute for the Study of Muslim Civilizations, Aga Khan University, UK, and Head of the Aga Khan Library in London. The discussion will be moderated by Ms. Dina Youssef, Head of the BA Library Sector.

The lecture will address the global transformations taking place in the library profession and the role of international libraries in establishing a professional identity capable of keeping pace with rapid changes in knowledge and technology. It will also discuss the development of international librarianship in the 21st century and the impact of these transformations on career paths, particularly for academic librarians, public librarians, and colleagues working in the Global South.

The lecture will review the global trends that are reshaping this field, including changing models of knowledge production, digital infrastructures, issues of knowledge justice, and the influence of international organizations. It also highlights structural challenges facing the profession, such as the imbalance of power between the East and the West in shaping professional agendas, while highlighting innovative models for international cooperation.

This lecture is part of the activities of the Professional Diplomas and Programs Section, which aims to offer accredited professional diplomas and distinctive professional programs to serve BA visitors in Egypt and abroad, in addition to workshops that help prepare young people for the growing job market by bridging the gap between its needs and their academic experience.
