The Bibliotheca Alexandrina has launched the “Da’em” widget on its official website, in collaboration with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology and the National Academy of Information Technology for Persons with Disabilities (NAID). This collaboration aims to break down digital barriers by harnessing artificial intelligence solutions and assistive technologies, ensuring that people with disabilities have complete independence in accessing information and effectively enhancing their digital presence.

The tool relies on an advanced user interface that allows users to customize their experience according to individual needs when browsing websites. It includes several technologies, such as:

Text-to-speech: to read text and content for the blind and visually impaired.

Text adjustment: the ability to enlarge fonts and adjust spacing to suit the user.

Color contrast: multiple screen color options to facilitate reading for people with various visual impairments, and many more.

This initiative underscores the Bibliotheca Alexandrina’s leading role and its commitment to following in the footsteps of the Egyptian government to help transform the concept of digital inclusion from a slogan into reality, thus striving to achieve the principle of equal opportunities in accessing knowledge and utilizing technology as a fundamental tool to serve all segments of society and achieve sustainable development.
