Dr. Ahmed Zayed, Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, opened the exhibition "Letters of Light: The Symbolic Dimensions of Arabic Calligraphy" by Italian artist Antonella Leoni at Sinnari House in Cairo, as part of a joint collaboration between the Academic Research Sector’s Writing and Scripts Center and the Cultural Outreach Sector’s Sinnari House, alongside the Italian Embassy and the Italian Cultural Institute.

An academic conference on Sufi studies and the philosophy of language was held as part of the opening events.

The exhibition ran from 28 March to 2 April 2026, and featured a collection of works by artist Antonella Leoni, who draws inspiration from the symbolic and spiritual dimensions of the letter in her work. The artworks present visual insights that intersect with concepts of Sufism and the philosophy of language in an attempt to explore the relationship between form and meaning, and the connotations carried by the letter, which transcend its expressive function to reach profound aesthetic and contemplative horizons. The exhibition also included various art workshops, most notably the Ebru (painting on water) workshop and the Moroccan calligraphy workshop.
