The Bibliotheca Alexandrina organized a seminar titled “The Impact of Digital Space on Social Cohesion,” as part of its ongoing efforts to discuss societal issues related to digital transformation and its rapidly evolving effects.

Speakers at the seminar included Dr. Ahmed Zayed, Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina; Dr. Wessam Nasr, Dean of the Faculty of Mass Communication at Cairo University; Dr. Amany Albert, Dean of Alexandria Media Institute; Dr. Bassant Murad, Professor of Radio and Television at the Faculty of Mass Communication, Cairo University; and Yasser Abdel Aziz, media expert, writer, and member of the Egyptian Senate.

The seminar was introduced by Dr. Sameh Fawzy, Senior Researcher at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, who stated that the seminar addresses one of the most important social issues: the impact of digital space on social cohesion. The Library ensured the presence of a diverse audience to enrich the discussion, with a large number of young people, media students, representatives from fifty civil society organizations, public figures, members of parliament, experts and academics, and Islamic and Christian leaders in attendance.

The event was moderated by Dr. Ahmed Zayed, who mentioned in his remarks that the contemporary world is witnessing profound and rapid transformations in the fields of communication, digital networks, and the internet. He said that the vast digital space creates new patterns of life and interaction, while posing real challenges to societies, particularly regarding social cohesion and the building of shared values.

The event is part of the Alexandria Dialogues series launched by the Library with the aim of supporting community dialogue in discussing social issues to build a more informed and cohesive society.
