The Bibliotheca Alexandrina hosted an event to launch the “Book and Screen” program curriculum under the theme “A New Beginning for Adult Education in Egypt,” attended by Dr. Ahmed Zayed, the Library Director, and Mr. Mohamed Attia, Chief Executive Officer of the General Authority for Adult Education. The event was presented by Dina Youssef, Head of the BA Library Sector.
Dr. Zayed said that since its establishment, the Library has been serving as a center for education and the promotion of values of tolerance and understanding. He added that this event is the result of a longstanding collaboration between the Bibliotheca Alexandrina and the General Authority for Adult Education that started in 2018.
He also pointed out that the Library initiated the “Easy Reading” program, which featured monthly meetings to assist learners and provide them with different cultural services, thereby contributing to their integration into cultural and intellectual domains and ensuring that literacy programs are not limited to teaching reading and writing.
Manar Badr, a senior librarian at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, said that the project was launched by the Library’s Easy Reading Section, which relies on picture books as a means to encourage participants to read together through monthly meetings, with the aim of establishing a reading habit and simplifying knowledge for learners in literacy and adult education programs.
She mentioned that the Library offers free membership to those who have obtained a literacy certificate, adding that the Bibliotheca Alexandrina organized 17 in-person and online training workshops targeting university students and literacy teachers.
The Chief Executive Officer of the General Authority for Adult Education was presented with a copy of the curriculum during the event. Meanwhile, a number of students who took part in literacy classes were honored in recognition of their efforts and to encourage them to continue their educational journey.
