The Second Edition of “Alexandria Quantum Hackathon 2026” at the BA

The Bibliotheca Alexandrina has launched the second edition of the “Alexandria Quantum Hackathon 2026,” which is considered the region’s most prominent technical gathering in the field of quantum computing. This event saw the participation of more than 120 developers and researchers from Egypt, the Arab world, and Africa, along with a host of international experts, with the aim of utilizing quantum sciences to find pioneering solutions that serve sustainable development goals.
This edition is held in strategic collaboration with prominent local and international partners, including the Open Quantum Institute (OQI), iQafé, Molket, and Fixed Solutions.
The event was inaugurated by Dr. Ahmed Samir, Head of the BA Communications and Information Technology Sector, on behalf of Dr. Ahmed Zayed, Director of the BA.
This year's competition focuses on four main topics: developing medicines and tumor classification through quantum artificial intelligence, simulating advanced material for clean energy, designing quantum chips, and securing digital infrastructure with ultra-secure communication networks (post-quantum encryption) to protect data flow between cities.
The hackathon will conclude with a ceremony to announce the winning teams and distribute the awards.
