“Your Planet Needs You - Unite to Combat Climate Change” The United Nations launched the World Environment Day (WED) in 1972 to stimulate awareness of the environment and enhance political attention and action. This international event takes place in June of every year. In past years, cities such as Barcelona, Tokyo, and Moscow have served as the primary hosts. Festivities, however, are not limited to the host country alone; celebrations are simultaneously held all over the world. The BA organizes WED in Alexandria under the auspices of the Ministry of State for Environmental Affairs and in collaboration with the Ministry of Education. The event is open to the public and is a unique opportunity to learn more about environment and climate change, meet new people, share ideas, and participate in a variety of activities and contests. It aims at providing the public with environment conservation information; involving schools in planning and implementing innovative responses to challenges contributing to climate change like: energy efficiency, waste management and other issues related to negatives habits; and building partnerships and networks between environmental groups, NGOs, donors, associations, institutions, governmental entities, and the public.
