In cooperation with ALSALAMA hospital, the Planetarium Science Center is organizing a lecture about the killer disease Avian influenza or (bird flu).  The lecture will be given by Dr Mohamed Helmy Zidan (Assistant lecturer Chest diseases Department Alexandria Faculty of Medicine and Member of the French Thoracic Society) who will explain how only influenza A viruses are known to infect birds. And H5N1 being the subtype of the virus is responsible  for the current crisis. He will clarify that the spread of the virus occurs from direct or close contact with poultry or surfaces contaminated with secretions from infected birds. How proper handling and cooking of poultry provides protection against this virus.  Also about the vaccine currently under trial.  Finally, He will state statistic related to influenza epidemics.
