Anna Lindh Euro-Mediterranean Foundation for the Dialogue Between Cultures: Music, an Instrument for Dialogue Between Cultures

Posted on

Alexandria — The Anna Lindh Euro-Mediterranean Foundation for Dialogue between Cultures was one of the partners in the Babel med music: World Music Festival organized by Dock Des Suds and held in Marseille (France) from 16 to 18 March, 2006. Babel Med Music is a "musical marketplace" where artists, music-industry professionals, promoters, agents, managers, music journalists, cultural managers and representatives of record companies and music festivals can present their work and their organizations and create professional links with one another. The event included an exhibition space with stands for NGOs, music industry organizations, concerts and a series of conferences on the theme of ‘diversity’.

From the 30 artists and groups chosen by the Jury of the Festival, the Anna Lindh Foundation awarded two artists a special Anna Lindh Foundation prize: Techno Roman Project from Turkey, whose music represents a fusion of traditional Turkish tzigane (gypsy) and electronic music and Yasmin Levy from Israel, who revives the music of the Ladino/ Judeo-Spanish heritage and mixes it with Andalusian Flamenco. These groups exemplify musical dialogue between cultures in the Euro-Mediterranean region.
