The Universality of Ibn Khaldoun

Alexandria— the BA organizes from 5-7 December 2006, a celebration marking the sixth centennial of the death of the famous historiographer and historian Ibn Khaldoun. The celebration will include an international conference discussing the cultural and intellectual contributions of Ibn Khaldun in different fields of knowledge. Famous International and Arab sociologists, in addition to politicians and intellectuals will attend the conference.

As part of the BA’s efforts to honor famous intellectual figures, the BA will issue the Arabic translation of “Ibn Khaldun: the Mediterranean in the 14 Century: the Rise and Fall of Empires”. The Catalogue is a series of historic studies compiled by Jose Mauel Lara Foundation. The BA will also issue – as part of the Ibn Khaldun’s celebration- a book entitled “With Ibn Khaldun on His Journey” featuring his biography, his life in the palaces of Morocco and Andalusia, his journey to Egypt, teaching in Egyptian schools and mosques, taking apart in the campaign against the Mongolian conqueror Timur, who besieged Damascus, his relations with his peer Arabic scholars, and his favorite places in Egypt: Cairo of El Moez where he spent the rest of his life.
